Abstract

Various efficient electrically small antennas have been designed based on metamaterial shells and metamaterial-inspired structures. Several metamaterial-inspired antennas have been fabricated and the results have confirmed the design predictions. The Z antenna, a simplified version of the metamaterial-inspired 2D electric EZ antenna, has been designed and tested successfully. The experimentally tested design of this resonant near-field parasitic element, coax-fed monopole antenna will be discussed; its predicted performance and comparisons with experimental results will be reviewed and presented.
