Abstract

We analyze the strong coupling limit of spontaneous emission by an atom moving along the axis of a Fabry-Pérot cavity. The combined effects of the spatial cavity mode structure and of the Doppler shift lead in general to a damped oscillatory behaviour characterized by a large number of Doppler-shifted spectral sidebands.
