Abstract

An accurate and thermodynamically sound equation for the estimation of the vapor pressure of organic solids and liquids is developed. This equation utilizes improved estimation schemes for the entropies of vaporization and melting over Trouton's rule and Walden's rule. It also utilizes improved estimations of the heat capacity changes associated with vaporization and melting. The equation, which has no adjustable parameters, is shown to estimate successfully the vapor pressures of a wide variety of organic compounds.
