Abstract

The chloroform extract of Uvaria acuminata Oliv. has shown inhibitory activity against the P-388 lymphocytic leukemia test system of the National Cancer Institute. The major constituent of this extract was identified as the new 3′-benzyldihydrochalcone uvaretin, 1-[2,4-dihydroxy-3-(2-hydroxybenzyl)-6-methoxyphenyl]-3-phenyl-lpropanone (C23H22O5)· The structure was proven by x-ray crystallography and other methods.
