Abstract
Several different types of ultraviolet (UV) lasers are reviewed, and in particular, the techniques to convert longer wavelength laser emission into UV by nonlinear optics are reviewed and the principles of those using external resonators are explained. This article should give the readers the basic knowledge of different ways of obtaining UV laser emission as well as the working principle of resonant harmonic conversion. The principle of harmonic conversion is also applicable to other wavelengths than UV as well.
