Abstract
A system for determining air temperature with an infrared thermometer has been developed. This method utilizes a shielded ″black body″ emitter as an atmospheric temperature reference. The emitter has been shown to approach air temperature to within 0. 13 degree C. This measurement system is especially useful in convective heat exchange studies between exposed surfaces and the atmosphere.
