Abstract
Laguerre-Gaussian beams were shown to provide a flexible means of forming toroidal optical dipole traps in two dimensional atomic Bose-Einstein condensates. The toroidal traps could be loaded from initial conditions and the numerical simulation for the same was presented. The possibility of realizing a Tonk's gas of impenetrable bosons on a ring in the limit of a small number of atoms was shown to exist.
