Abstract

Recent advances in optics, lighting, and instrumentation have made minimally invasive surgical procedures a reality. Thoracoscopy and video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS) represent the extension of these techniques to the diagnosis and therapy of diseases within the thoracic cavity. Herein, we review the role of these techniques in the diagnosis and treatment of pleural effusions.
