Abstract
A study was conducted for theoretical investigation of stability of doubly charged negative ions of elemental clusters, such as C2-8. The study demonstrated that the C2-8 system was stable with respect to electron detachments in agreement with the experimental observation. The investigations showed the final total energies and the first and second vertical electron affinities of C8. Both second electron affinities were positive, indicating that the C2-8 anion should be stable and long lived.
