Abstract

The thermodynamic potential of the ideal Fermi gas is evaluated analytically for arbitrary temperatures and chemical potentials in the case that the latter is much larger than the rest mass of the particles. This is achieved by allowing for the necessary particle-antiparticle chemical equilibrium. As a first application the authors consider the properties of hot quark matter in a giant MIT bag.
