Abstract
The magneto-optical Kerr effects are discussed. The Kerr effect can be analyzed with the direction of magnetization of the sample arbitrarily oriented relative to the plane of incidence of the light beam. The magneto-optical effects are best described in terms of the dielectric tensor of the medium in which the interaction between the light and the applied magnetic field takes place.
