Abstract

This study examines impacts of “blockbuster projects” - i.e., overwhelmingly successful projects - on crowdfunding platforms. Drawing insights from network effects literature, we formulate hypotheses concerning the positive spillover and negative cannibalization effects of blockbuster projects. We test the hypotheses using campaign level and campaign-day level data from a leading crowdfunding platform.
