Abstract
Scientists from several institutions and with different research backgrounds have worked together to develop a prototype modular land model for weather forecasting and climate studies. The resultant model, called Common Land Model (CLM), is now available for public use and further development. The model includes three elements, including, the core single-column soil-snow-vegetation biophysical code, the land boundary data, and the scaling procedures within a climate model required to interface atmospheric model grid-square inputs to land single-column processes.
