Abstract
Properly selected, adequately replicated and appropriately standardised tree-ring chronologies will correlate with macroclimatic factors that vary in kind from month to month and from one season to the next. This causes the coefficients for monthly temperature and precipitation to vary within and among response function results. Some of this variation is due to statistical uncertainty, but the remainder can be attributed to differences in physiological responses. -L.F.Musk
