Abstract

The conceptualization of a space Very Long Baseline Interferometry mission, known as the Black Hole Explorer (BHEX), is currently underway. This mission aims to explore fundamental aspects of black hole physics by detecting the intricately structured image feature around black holes, referred to as the photon ring. The presence of this feature is theoretically expected due to light orbiting the black hole before reaching the observer. Achieving the necessary angular resolution demands interferometer baselines significantly longer than the diameter of Earth.
