N2 - To the Editor: I read with great interest the article by Hersh et al. (285:1211, 1971) on the immunocompetence of leukemic patients. Since we performed similar studies on patients with acute leukemia I should like to ask a few questions. In the article the statement is made that the phytohemag-glutinin-M (PHA) response was 41,000 cm etc. How was this figure arrived at? Is this cpm response minus control? No figures are given for the control cpm. This is very important since, in our experience, the control cultures with leukemic cells have a high control (leukemic control, 5000 to 10,000 cpm, ….
