Abstract

This paper introduces the testing requirement for efficient reliability assessment of Avionics Full-Duplex Switched Ethernet (AFDX). Because traffic is the main stress for AFDX, the key elements of test profile are analyzed based on network's traffic configuration. The analysis suggests a new method for designing the test profile for reliability assessment of AFDX. Specifically, the flight envelopes of aircraft are used as the input of the mission profile; an empirical mapping model is proposed to transfer the qualitative traffic information in the mission profile to the quantitative elements in the application profile; to obtain the test profile that is easier to implement, two criteria are considered in simplifying the application profile using an extreme envelope method; to reduce the amount of tests for multi-mission aircraft, composite test profile methods are provided for two typical situations.
