Abstract

Advanced telecommunication devices have taken their place alongside the Internet and computer software as sectors of the economy that are shaping our social system. Health care has not been immune to the social changes that are occurring as a result of these advanced technologies. The overall effect of these devices on the psychiatrist-patient relationship and the process of treatment decision-making is not known. This article will discuss the complex association between technologic advancement and social change within the context of the psychiatrist-patient relationship.
