Abstract

The bilateral symmetry of the strain response and elastic moduli of canine femora during loading is determined. Percentages of strain were calculated for the left femur of each dog based on the percentage of the left femoral strains compared to the right femoral strains. After mechanical testing, cross sections at the proximal and distal gages were analyzed with a computer-based optical image analysis system. Strain and modulus percentages were calculated for the proximal and distal gage locations in each of the four loading directions.
