Abstract

The authors describe the preliminary architecture design of a Nodal Communications Processor (NCP) designed to interface nodal computers to a fault-tolerant communication network known as the Dispersed Sensor Processing Mesh (DSPM). The NCP handles data communications according to a variation of the MIL-STD-1773 protocol, reroutes properly incoming messages to their destinations, communicates with the nodal computer associated with NCP through the VME bus, and finally reconfigures the DSPM to bypass any faulty element that might be encountered.
