Abstract
Four cable drawn farming systems, including a single engine system, a double engine system, a perimeter system, and a double implement system were analyzed to determine which was best suited for Arizona in terms of performance, cost and reliability. The single implement system was found to be the simplest, least expensive system to construct and have a field capacity only 8% lower than the best performing double implement system. The parameters that affect single implement system performance were then optimized, yielding a system having a field capacity 5% lower than a tractor based system.
