Abstract

RNA synthesis in the mosquito ovary after adult emergence is predominantly ribosomal. The rate of synthesis remains at a low level except for a rapid increase between 6 and 20 hr. Most of the RNA synthesized between 0 and 48 hr is conserved. Most of the RNA synthesized in the 48 to 120 hr period turns over. The ribosomal RNA's synthesized during the early period, prior to the time an animal can take a needed meal of blood, may be conserved for later use by the developing embryo.
