Abstract
This chapter argues that the value of bringing feminist communication pedagogies and theories like adaptive leadership together is not merely theoretical but rather transformational. Adaptive leadership calls for identifying adaptive challenges and mobilizing others to make progress on them, providing a useful set of principles to do so. Feminist communication pedagogies offer both a moral and ethical impetus for change and a set of values and practices for navigating tensions experienced when putting adaptive leadership principles into action. To illustrate, this chapter offers as a case study a semester-long, community-based research project on food insecurity. Through this case, the author highlights transformative outcomes of the approach and project for students and communities. In doing so, the author invites consideration of how bringing together adaptive leadership and feminist communication pedagogies can cultivate leaders who can mobilize others to address the world's most complex challenges.
