Abstract
A new method to suppress the radiation that is due to third-order dispersion in a solitonlike self-mode-locked laser is suggested. We propose to exploit the dispersion of the nonlinearity in the vicinity of two-photon resonance to counteract the radiative effects. A perturbative approach combined with numerical solutions demonstrates the effectiveness of this scheme to increase the stable operating domain and shorten the output pulses. Suggestions for experimental realizations are given.
