Summary Section III: The Role of “Context” in Assessment

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapter

Abstract

Assessment is a necessary part of the educative process; yet, it may not be perceived as a glamorous concept to engage with. The following chapters offer real stories from visual art teachers who work with students when designing and implementing authentic assessment strategies. Having a clear view of intersecting, and sometimes competing forces, within the educational landscape is a move toward understanding the critical importance of contextualizing the lived experience, when designing assessment strategies. The strategies offered in these narratives are responsive to various types of student knowledge and highlight both process and product, contain an array of formal and informal measures, reveal a continuous process of evaluation measures, and are responsive to multiple notions of intelligence and creativity.
