Studies of a nanometer antenna combined with open and closed cylindrical active coated nano particles

Abstract

A nanometer antenna, which is a combination of a nanometer dipole element and an open or closed cylindrical active coated nano particle, is proposed and studied numerically. The corresponding passive nano-antenna shows strong radiated fields at its resonant frequency, which is fundamentally dependent on the size of the active nano-antenna. After a correction in size/wavelength for the presence of the gain medium to re-establish the resonance, the active nanometer antenna shows extremely good performance for the total radiated power at the resonance frequency, i.e., the scattering cross section maximum is 95 dBsm, about 55 dBsm above its non-resonant values.
