Abstract
A class of structured low-density parity check (LDPC) codes based on mutually orthogonal Latin rectangles was presented. The codes had features such as high code rates, high girth and very low complexity encoder/decoder implementation suitable for high-speed long-haul optical communication. The code graph specified a natural layout, and the sum-product operations were well matched to the natural nonlinear physical behavior of transistors. The analog iterative decoder was found to be a very attractive option for optical communication.
