Stress management in occupational settings

A general introduction is presented to the problems and promise of stress management as applied to occupational settings. The challenge facing industry, labor, and science today is to design stress management programs that can be clinically and cost effective and then to carefully evaluate these programs in occupational settings through systematic research. The promise of positive results emerging from collaborative research in this area is substantial and should be pursued vigorously, despite the numerous problems in conducting such research. Clinical aspects of stress management are briefly discussed.
