N2 - Emission testing was performed on two hydrazine monopropellant thrusters to characterize the products of the catalytic decomposition of the hydrazine fuel. These thrusters are part of the landing system on NASA's Phoenix Mars Lander. Gas samples were extracted during engine testing and analyzed using a Fourier transform infrared spectrometer. The spectrometer was calibrated to measure hydrazine, ammonia, and water vapor. The results of the emissions test reported in this paper compare favorably with theoretical predictions.
