Abstract
Maximization of chemical utilization within the root zone of crops and minimization of groundwater contamination are the major objectives of chemigation under any irrigation system. Field evaluation of solute movement under drip, sprinkler and level basin irrigation systems was made using potassium bromide as a tracer. The results of the study indicate the temporal and spatial distribution of bromide to be more uniform under drip irrigation than under sprinkler or level basin systems. This implies that drip irrigation system has the potential for efficient utilization of chemicals and nutrients and minimization of groundwater pollution.
