Abstract

The soil moisture mapping and the spatial and temporal characterization of river basins based on Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) imagery were discussed. The river basins under study were Sardinia, Italy, based Flumendosa and the larger Meuse basin. The statistical analysis of the processed SAR image provided aid in the development of an aggregation methodology for the generation of large scale soil moisture maps. The utilization of principle component transformation approach during the multitemporal analysis of the obtained satellite images was also discussed.
