Abstract

We propose a new approach to the soft-decision decoding of Reed-Muller codes, which takes direct advantage of the Reed decoding algorithm. The proposed decoder has highly parallel and modularized structure compared to the decoder of the random low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes. We apply the new decoding algorithm to the both longitudinal and perpendicular magnetic recording channels.
