Abstract
Women in perimenopause and beyond the final menstrual period are prone to insomnia, often clustered with vasomotor symptoms (hot flashes/sweats) and depressed mood. Evidence is weak for sole or predominant effects of reproductive hormones, pointing to the need for the pursuit of other propensities. Female reproductive aging, identified by hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian hormone changes, can be seen over and above biological age and some other factors to convey vulnerability for sleep-related breathing disorders and restless legs syndrome.
