note = "Funding Information: In conclusion, we have proposed and demonstrated a novel glass waveguide laser configuration that is suitable for high single mode output powers, by using a cost effective broad area semiconductor laser pumping. We have shown that Ag film ion exchange is a promising technique for making devices in the hybrid phosphate glass, which is suitable for monolithic integration of active and passive functions in a single glass chip. We have measured a single transverse mode waveguide laser output power of 54 mW. We anticipate that the laser performance can be greatly improved by optimizing the cavity and the waveguide index profile.
