Sap flow gauge measurement of transpiration for acacia and mesquite trees

Abstract

Transpiration was measured with sap flow gauges on two landscape plant species (Acacia and Mesquite). The trees were subjected to three watering treatments: 1, 4, and 8 eight drip emitters. All treatments received equal amounts of water based on seasonal transpiration rates. The seasonal sap flow patterns on an hourly and daily basis were plotted. Transpiration measurements indicated that the threshold temperature limits were not experienced. Transpiration for the acacia and the mesquite as a function of canopy area were 0.4 and 0.65 of the reference ET, respectively, during summer.
