Abstract
The authors present a simple circuit that can be added to most commercial ICP-AES systems that will automatically shut off the rf power if the plasma is extinguished. This circuit design has been used on at least four ICPs in the authors' laboratory for the past three years and has proven to be an invaluable safeguard. The theory of operation is discussed. The entire sensor circuit will easily fit in a 1 5/8 in. multiplied by 2 1/8 in. multiplied by 2 3/4 in. Model Cu-3000-a BUD box and can be mounted on the side of the commercial torch box. The parts list is included in this study.
