Abstract

A study was undertaken to quantify any changes in root distribution that would occur when 12 year old orange trees that had been border-flood irrigated were converted to different pressurized irrigation treatments. It was felt that the different areas wetted by each irrigation system would probably affect the root distribution. The amount and distribution of the tree's feeder roots would indicate areas where water was available and the citrus roots were active. The auger method is preferred to obtain volumetric soil-root samples without destroying the plant.
