Review of Methods to Achieve Optical Recording at 1Tb/in2

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingConference contribution

Abstract

Technologies that promise optical recording at densities of 1 Tb/in2 are reviewed. Two primary candidates, near-field recording and bit-wise volumetric recording, are emphasized. In both technologies, The goal of recording at 1Tb/in2 appears to be a challenging but obtainable goal. Tradeoffs associated with each technology are also presented.
