Abstract

A simple passivation method based on a dielectric coating above the fabricated waveguides was reported. The results indicated that a significant reduction in waveguide loss and improved reliability of the waveguides. This paper presents long-term propagation loss stabilized below 0.3 db/cm at 1550 nm of a silica passivated sol-gel slab waveguide.
