Abstract
Reinvention of the philosophy of American graduate education for higher learning and intellectual culture was discussed. The inclusion of professional engineering studies in graduate instruction was suggested to furnish graduate students with a holistic and integrated view of a given branch of engineering within the framework of its industry. It was suggested that students should be provided the fundamentals of engineering business, including financing, marketing, planning and technical entrepreneurship. An integrative philosophy of graduate education was expected to provide the solid groundwork for the new academic paradigmatic shift.
