Abstract

Recent developments in 1 W/cm single mode fiber lasers were discussed. A side-pumping scheme with short-length fiber lasers was also demonstrated. It was found that the fiber has a D-shaped clad and an off-center circular core to achieve the chaotic propagation of the pump which improves the pump absorption. The optical-to-optical efficiency of 24% and up to 5W output power were obtained from the use of single mode fiber lasers.
