Abstract

The data-signal detection of an optical data-storage system with a solid immersion lens (SIL) was improved using a pupil-plane filtering technique. The technique improves the signal contrast and reduces the cancellation of positive and negative signal contributions in the pupil. Furthermore, the technique makes the signal contrast less sensitive for relatively large gap widths.
