Abstract
To the Editor: The article by Redline and Dahms, “Malassezia Pulmonary Vasculitis in an Infant on Long-Term Intralipid Therapy” (December 3 issue),1 documents the most severe manifestation to date of systemic disease involving this lipophilic yeast. In addition to the case of peritonitis referred to in this article, there has also been a report of chronic sinusitis.2 Although Redline and Dahms base their use of the term “malassezia” on the Manual of Clinical Microbiology,3 this work cites as its authority an article by Salkin and Gordon, who state that the term “Malassezia furfur” should be reserved for organisms possessing.
