Abstract

The effects of several design parameters on the transient and steady-state transport of molecules between an upper and lower microchannels separated by a porous membrane were studied experimentally and numerically. While the flow rate and membrane porosity were found to be the dominant effects, changing the flow direction, molecular size, or channel height had little effect. The simulations reveal that the molecular diffusion is confined to a short distance from the membrane.
