Abstract

Type 2 diabetes is a growing epidemic. Ayurvedic medicine is an alternative therapy that offers a variety of herbal remedies relevant to the treatment of type 2 diabetes. Herbs used in ayurveda are rich in polyphenolic compounds. Polyphenols are key components used for the regulation of blood sugar, insulin sensitivity, and other diabetic complications. This chapter compares and contrasts polyphenolic herbs that may be used in conjunction with conventional medicine, to assist with the complications of type 2 diabetes.
