Abstract
In this study, it was demonstrated that the polarization state of the input can have a large effect on the collapse of ultrashort pulses and the arrest of the collapse via pulse splitting. Linearly polarized input pulses were found to exhibit a polarization instability in which the energies in each polarization tend to equalize, whereas circularly polarized inputs are relatively stable.
