Abstract

The theory of spatial pattern formation in a nonlinear cavity is extended to account for the vector nature of the fields. For a self-defocusing medium rolls (stripes) can form spontaneously under suitable conditions. The roll patterns exhibit many defects, especially for finite diameter pump beams.
