Photorefractive polymers with improved efficiency

Abstract

A new photorefractive polymer composite based on a polyvinylcarbazole matrix and doped with the new chromophore HR-2-54 with a strong orientational efficiency was developed. The photorefractive properties of the new composites were studied by four-wave mixing and two-beam coupling experiments. The structure of the molecule was carefully designed to prevent photoisomerization and to ensure good solubility in the photoconducting matrix and to prevent crystallization. The nonlinear response of the chromophore was measured with the frequency-dependent ellipsometry technique. The results of the study for photorefractive polymer composites are presented.
