Abstract
The phase-space relevant to the discussion of the dynamics of a dispersive non-linear interferometer is studied theoretically. The regimes of higher order optical bistability and of optical multistability are also considered. We perform a phase-space analysis to show that phase switching is possible in these regimes. However, it can in general be used only to switch the system down to lower transmission steady-states or in first order bistability. In this last case, the interest of phase switching becomes marginal when high transmission mirrors are considered.
