Abstract

This study presents the derivation of explicit expressions for PD material parameters within the realm of 'ordinary state-based' formulation for a fiber-reinforced lamina in terms engineering material constants. The PD material parameters are related to the material constants of classical continuum mechanics by considering four different loading cases. The validity of the present approach is demonstrated by considering a lamina subjected to uniaxial tension both in the fiber and transverse directions. The PD displacement predictions are compared with those by classical laminate theory. Damage growth patterns from a preexisting crack in a lamina for different fiber orientations are predicted and compared against experimental observations.
